Every year at the same time starts the Christmas holiday time and Christmas songs are being played on the radio. Besides unforgettable classics like “Ave Maria” or “Silent Night, Holy Night”, it’s more over the hits from the 80’s and 90’s like “Last Christmas” from Wham, “Do They Know It’s Christmas” from Band Aid, “Wonderful Dream” from Melanie Thornton or “Driving Home For Christmas” from Chris Rhea, which actually always belong to Christmas time for the most people.

The music documentary “Pop Giganten – Christmas Hits” tells stories about the modern Christmas classics. Chris Rea’s “Driving Home For Christmas”, released from the first time in 1988, originates from a time, when the singer and his guitarist were completely unknown and pretty much broke. To spare money, he and his wife would drive from Christmas to his parents. While standing in traffic, that’s the moment he had the idea for this song.

Everybody knows George Michael’s world hit “Last Christmas”. But only few know that the singer was indicted by Barry Manilow during the release of the record because of plagiarism. All of this didn’t damage the whole success of the song either way: “Last Christmas” takes on the charts every year again and again and brings to George Michael more than 8 Million Euros per year.

We will hear comments and stories from celebrities like Singer Jay Khan, Actress Jeannette Biedermann and the commentators Giovanni und Jana Ina Zarrella, as well as from music producer Alex Christensen, who actually produced Helene Fischer’s successful Christmas album in 2015…
