Paul Anka

At the beginning of 2005 Paul Anka had a powerful comeback with a top-notch swing album. The unique idea: In the “Capitol Studios” in Los Angeles, a total of 14 swing versions of rock songs such as “Eye Of The Tiger” or “Jump” were recorded in collaboration with nearly 50 of the world’s best musicians.

The team of producer Alex Christensen is something like the “Who is Who” of the music business: Al Schmitt, who has already won 12 Grammies and worked with artists like Frank Sinatra, Robbie Williams, Diana Krall, Usher and many more, is the Engineer. One of the musicians is percussion legend Emil Richards, who has worked with Frank Sinatra, Nat Cole, Doris Day, George Harrison and the Beach Boys, to name only a few. The result: Swing at its finest – definitely a milestone in Paul Anka’s extraordinary career, that has been lasting for almost 45 years now.

Paul Anka gained his first impressions of the “world of music” when he sneaked into clubs at a very young age. He also participated in amateur contests. He grew up in Ottawa, Ontario and started developing a talent for songwriting in English and journalism courses. Thanks to this talent and 124 albums he gained the 21st rank on the list of the most successful artists in the history of Billboard Charts.

He achieved a break-through when he was only 16 years old, when he presented his hit single “Diana” to the world, of which more than 20 million copies were sold all over the world. He followed up with more number one hits, including “Lonely Boy” and “You’re Having My Baby”. Nowadays Paul Anka can look back on an impressive career: In the USA alone he had 22 Top Ten hits and more than 33 Top 40 hits. He sold more than 60 million records and released over 120 albums. The Italian song “Ogni Volta” and the Spanish duet album “Amigos”, on which he performed with stars like Celine Dion, Ricky Martin and Julio Iglesias in 1996, demonstrate his interest in an international bond with music and his fans. Paul Anka gained a reputation as a song writer with hits such as “She’s a Lady” (performed by Tom Jones), “It Doesn’t Matter Anymore” (performed by Buddy Holly), or the unforgettable “My Way” (performed by Frank Sinatra).

Not only on stage, but also in front of the camera Paul Anka cuts a good figure: He played alongside Kevin Costner , Kurt Russell and Christian Slater In “300 Miles to Graceland”, with Richard Dreyfuss in “Mad Dog Time” as well as with Kurt Russell and Martin Short in “Captain Ron”, to name only a few.

There is nothing to suggest that Paul Anka is planning to retire – on the contrary: He is touring the world for 10 months every year and performs in Las Vegas on a regular basis, where he has a three-year contract with “THE MGM”- something very rare nowadays.
