Pop-Giganten – Black Hits

09.01.2018 – 10:15 PM – RTL2

Black hits, songs with black grooves and a black soul, keep on taking over the world. In 2015 Bruno Mars created with “Uptown Funk” the most successful song of the year, which sold about 15 million records worldwide. And how was it the past year? Did we have THE greatest black hit or more of them? On top of the radio list is French Montana’s black hit “Unforgettable” and of course some classics like “Hot In Here” from Nelly, “In Da Club” from 50 Cent or “Gangsta’s Paradise” from Coolio.

The song „Gangsta’s Paradise“ is special because it won a Grammy but indeed it is only an remixed cover version of Stevie Wonder’s Song “Pastime Paradise” from the 70’s.

This documentary of 90 minutes “Pop Giganten – Black hits” celebrates the greatest black hits of the past 30 years. From MC Hammers „U Can’t Touch This“ and Notorious BIG’s “Hypnotize” from the 90’s over “I’ll Be Missing You” from Puff Daddy and “Sexy Back” from Justin Timberlake from the millennial to “Good Feeling” from Flo Rida and “Talk Dirty” from Jason Derulo from this current decade.

Speaking of „Sexy Back“, the documentary is dedicated to Black Hits, which were made from white artists like “Sexy Back” or “Jump Around” from House of Pain.

The Program tells stories around the songs and/or the interprets and seeks for the essence of black hits. Are black hits sexier as pop songs? Is it better to party on them rather than on pop songs? Does the scene of the ghetto gangster really belong to the black hits world? And do superstars like Beyoncé and Rihanna only make black hits nowadays?

This documentary on black and their stories will be commented by eloquent celebrities like the musicians Giovani Zarrella, Amanda Murray, Sabrina Setlur, Gil Ofarim, Senna Gammour and Christian Klein (LaFee), the commentators Amaiz Habtu and Mila Loff Fernandes, the producers Alex Christensen as well as Music expert Nilz Bokelberg.
