Pop Giganten – 80s

The 80s, what a feeling! From New Wave to the New Romantics, from absolute megastars to the incredible Girl Power movement!

We will travel with the pop giants into the decade of technological change, the beginnings of the environmental movement, the cassette and the fierce hairstyles: the 80s!

A decade when, for the first time, artists enter the international stage, which today are considered THE superstars: like Madonna, Michael Jackson, Phil Collins or Queen.

A decade in the shadow of power blocks in East and West, in which pop creates new subcultures – from apolitical to rebellious.

The social feeling of the 80s is determined by the Cold War, which in 1983 by mistake almost turned into a hot one. This sword of Damocles is the main reason why people celebrate as if there is no tomorrow.

Bands such as Depeche Mode, New Order, Tears for Fears and Talk Talk characterize the typical sound of the 80s with their modern sounds. Musically, the 80s are a giant step into the modern age. From now on, music will sound different than before!

And there are also the huge emotions! Specially In movies which capture this very special decade emotionally: Dirty Dancing, Mad Max or Flashdance conquered the hearts of the audience, even with their music.

The 90-minute documentary “Pop Giants – 80s” sheds light on an incredibly colorful decade, which is associated with a very special consciousness: departure.

The music experts and artists Janine Kunze, Nilz Bokelberg, Tahnee, Eva Brenner, Marco Schreyl, Aaron Troschke as well as Danny Liedtke and David Ortega from the German Sope Opera “Köln 50667” travel back with us for a very future-oriented decade, from neon-colorful to goth-dark. In order to illustrate their opinions they do not have to be all children of the 80s, because this decade still beats big waves!
