Pop Giants – EM 2024: The Greatest Football Hits

2024 - The European Championship in our own country and all of Germany is in football fever. The nation is eagerly anticipating the official football song for the European Championship as well: One Republic, Meduza, and the German artist Leony are putting their own spin on the song. But will it be well received by the German fans?

The English handled it in their own typical way in 1996. The official Euro 1996 song is still a catchy tune to this day - and possibly one of the best-known and most beloved football hits ever. "Three Lions" – or "Football's Coming Home" – is not only sung by English fans. The song is associated with the 1996 tournament all over the world. Incidentally, Germany won the Euro 1996 title under national coach Berti Vogts.

The 90-minute documentary Pop Giants – EM 2024: The Greatest Football Hits celebrates the greatest football hits of all time. Both the official ones, released by FIFA or UEFA for major football events and becoming global hits, like "Waka Waka" by Shakira or "Love Generation" by Bob Sinclar, as well as the unofficial ones that fans choose for themselves, like "54 74 90 2006" by Sportfreunde Stiller. The documentary also celebrates the time when the German national team took to the microphone themselves and belted out hits like "Fußball ist unser Leben" or "Far Away in America."

Former football stars Pierre Littbarski and Thomas Häßler share their thoughts: They are supported by Euro ambassadors Gerald Asamoah and world champion coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg. The expert panel is further filled with the celebrity couple Claudia and Stefan Effenberg, and presenter Nova Meier-Henrichs along with music producer Alex Christensen.
