Cult hits are monuments of music history. The show shows stories about each song and why it has achieved cult status.
We tell the most bizarre origin stories, such as that of the title "I Was Made For Loving You" (1978) by KISS. Paul Stanley, "Starchild," the KISS member with the star painted around his right eye, actually wrote it "just for fun" in 1979. Back then, disco music was very popular and he thought that such a disco song would be easy to write. No sooner said than done and the result is a rock song with a disco beat. The rest of the band members aren't enthusiastic about the song at first and don't want to release it, but guitarist Paul Stanley prevails and "I Was Made For Loving You" becomes the biggest hit of Kiss' career.
Many big cult hits come from the 80s, such as those by music greats Whitney Houston (I wanna dance with somebody) and Bon Jovi (Livin' On A Prayer).
But there were also cult hits in the 1960s: Johnny Cash's "Ring Of Fire" has survived to this day and towards the end of the 1970s we find Queen's gigantic cult hit "We will rock you".
In the 90s, girl power became a cult thanks to the Spice Girls (song: Wannabe) and Lady Gaga (song: Pokerface) continued this heritage in the 2000s as well. But we don't only find cult hits in the past decades, more recent songs such as "Auf uns" by Andreas Bourani have already achieved cult status.
