4 the Cause
Not only for their music, but also for their Christian faith, 4 THE CAUSE (engl. For the cause) made strong. In March 1993, siblings Jason "J-Man" Edwards and his sister Shonna "Miss Lady" Edwards, along with their cousins Reshona "Shorty" Edwards and Bennie "BJ" Edwards Jr., formed a gospel group - then called the Young Warriors for Christ” (Eng. Young warriors for Christ). At the end of 1997 the four singers finally became 4 THE CAUSE; up until then they had performed under different names at school festivals, taken part in a young talent competition and released a gospel album. Their breakthrough came in 1998 with their cover version of the Ben E. King song "Stand By Me". The title successfully placed 2nd in the German and Austrian charts and even climbed to number 1 in Switzerland. The album of the same name included other cover versions such as "Ain't no Sunshine" and "Let Me Be" as well as their own compositions "Shine Again" and "Make Your Head Rock" included. In 2002 the quartet from Illinois followed up with a "Best of" album.
