Elvis is alive - The King is 80 - Presented by Andreas Gabalier
One billion records sold, five Halls of Fame entries, 167 gold and platinum awards and 18 No. 1 singles in the USA: Elvis Presley broke all records during his lifetime.
On January 8th he would celebrate his 80th birthday. On this occasion, VOX is dedicating the four-hour documentary event “Elvis is alive! The King turns 80 – presented by Andreas Gabalier”. The documentation brings the artist to life with all his bright and dark sides and shows previously unpublished, private original recordings of his concerts and encounters with fans. Folk rock'n'roller Andreas Gabalier leads through the format - he is a big Elvis fan himself. Companions and celebrities such as Elvis' ex-wife Priscilla Presley, his daughter Lisa Marie Presley, best man Joe Esposito, his best friend Jerry Schilling and other celebrities such as Sir Cliff Richard and the "Tiger" Tom Jones also have their say share their very own experiences with the entertainer.
Elvis Presley has inspired and impressed millions of people worldwide. He is also an important musician for singer Andreas Gabalier. It is therefore a personal concern of the so-called "Alpine Elvis" to lead through the documentary event: "My father had a large record collection, which also included some Elvis records. At big family celebrations or on cozy weekends, the radio was simply switched off and we children were allowed to turn the records with white cloth gloves. That was something special for us.” For his current album “Home Sweet Home” he even recorded a few extra songs in Memphis, the home of the “King”.
