I wish you love without suffering - 85 years of Udo Jürgens

With songs like "Greek Wine" and "An Honorable House" he wrote music history: Udo Jürgens - the only successful German-language singer and the greatest German-language pop songwriter of the 20th century. No other German-speaking songwriter has made it to the top of the charts in Germany, England and the USA with his songs. Superstars like Shirley Bassey, Sammy Davis Jr. and Matt Monroe sang his songs at their concerts. With over 100 million records sold, he is one of the most successful solo artists in the world.

The documentary event I wish you love without suffering - 85 years of Udo Jürgens illuminates this field of tension between a brilliant artist and a tragic private person. The occasion is Udo Jürgens' 85th birthday. The four-hour documentary describes the musical career of the successful singer using numerous concert excerpts from different decades as well as excerpts from his best TV appearances and illuminates the private sphere using partly unpublished photo and film material from the private archive.
